BELMAR NEW JERSEY FISHING PIER

Photography Hot Spot Location

Known for its abundance of natural and recreational offerings, Belmar is a highly sought-after vacation spot due to its proximity to both New York City and Philadelphia. With its sprawling beaches perfect for sunbathing, surfing, swimming, and fishing, there’s no shortage of outdoor activities.

You can also explore the charming boardwalk and town, which is complete with various shops, restaurants, and an active arts scene. The city hosts numerous sporting events, festivals, and family-friendly activities throughout the year. They also have a largemunicipal marina in the bay and the only private marina in town – Seaport Inlet Marina.

But our main attraction for photography is the fishing pier. You can get some incredible shots if you can get there for sunrise and the weather is right.

WHAT IS THE BEST TIME TO GO?

Spring, Summer and Fall are best. You will need a beach pass (during the daytime and summer months), so if you don’t want to be around many people, go off-season. That is when we go.

HOW LONG TO PHOTOGRAPH THIS AREA?

This area can be explored and photographed in just a few hours. You should pair this with other great photography locations.

WHAT PHOTOGRAPHY GEAR SHOULD I BRING?

  • A Camera with a wide-angle lens.
  • A zoom lens for outback on the water.
  • Tripod – For shooting long exposure for the moving waters.
  • Shutter release
  • Circular Polarizing Filter

WHAT ESLE SHOULD I BRING?

Not much else. This is an easily accessible location with many flowers and great views from the top of the lighthouse.

HOW DO I GET THERE?

Belmar is off the parkway in New Jersey, United States borough.

HOW BUSY DOES IT GET?

It’s not too bad, but the area resembles other New Jersey shore towns. We go midweek or off-season to avoid the normal beach crowds. Holiday weekends in the summer are the busiest.

BELMAR NEW JERSEY

Where NOT to go. We went into 7-11 across the street from the pier to get a super large hot cup of coffee to take with us on our Belmar Pier Photography shoot, and we needed to use the bathroom. It was the dead of winter, and barely a soul around. We were denied access to the bathroom even though we explained it was urgent.

I said, “Well, you just lost our business; I cannot buy a cup of coffee until I get rid of the two I just drank.” jokingly. He said, oh, well, that’s okay. He could care less.  It was his attitude that was the worst part.

So we got in our car and traveled several blocks south to Dunkin Doughnuts, which allowed us full access to the bathroom and didn’t blink an eye. They said even in the peak season, everyone is welcome to use the bathroom, and you don’t need to buy anything.

Please don’t use the seven-eleven even though it is across the street from the principal. Stop for coffee at Dunkin Donuts south of the location. We were then on the late side for our sunset photo shoot.  ONLY USE THIS AS A LANDMARK WHEN LOOKING FOR THE PIER.
